Decreasing water resources problem in today’s agriculture is one of the important problems of our farmers. Due to both dry seasons and geographical conditions, storing water in some agricultural lands has become an obligation. It is relatively easy to find solutions for small areas. Small capacity steel, polyethylene, polyester and even PVC pillow tanks can be used. However, as the need for storage increases, it is not possible to produce economical solutions with any of these tank/storage types.
Site Visit and Site Preparation
The most economical solution, even in many cases the only applicable solution for storing large volumes of water, is agricultural irrigation ponds prepared by digging or backfilling the soil. The storage volume of the user is determined by considering the water resources and required storage time. The most suitable pool size is selected by evaluating the area that can be reserved for the pond. The key parameter is the pond depth. A pond drawing is prepared for the customer for the selected dimensions and the customer prepares the pond for isolation application by doing the soil works according to this drawing. When the soil works are completed, a staff from the Orbit field team conducts a site visit to determine the pond surface suitability and check the dimensions. Following the approval of the proposal prepared according to the application area confirmed at this stage, the materials are shipped to the site and the Orbit assembly team will complete the application as soon as the weather conditions are suitable.
Site Application
Insulation application is done using HDPE, LDPE, PVC or EPDM geomembrane. Our company prefers “HDPE geomembrane” based on more than 10 years of experience in this field, as the most important problem in outdoor applications is the damage caused by animals. Geotextile felt is laid under the geomembrane in order to both protect the membrane and increase the quality of welding. The wall thickness of the geomembrane and the unit weight of the felt are determined by consultation with the customer according to the size of the pool and the condition of the soil surface. Orbit reports its recommendations based on experience where the final decision belongs to the customer.
Application is carried out by our experienced application staff using professional welding and extrusion machines. All our ponds are guaranteed by our company for 2 years against material and application defects. In case of damages not covered by the warranty, our company performs repairs and modifications as soon as possible by sending a team. We have ponds in Turkey and neighboring countries have completed 10 years of service and it is estimated to have a minimum of 20 years service life when used in proper cleaning and usage conditions.
